Expectations for Graduation
Graduation and the senior awards program are OPTIONAL activities for seniors. Graduation is the culmination of thirteen years of education. In effect, it is a rite of passage into adulthood.

In order to participate, seniors must adhere to the following guidelines:

All Graduating seniors must participate in practice.

Dress Code:
Cap and Gown for all students
Dress for all students is semiformal
Dress pants/slacks (dark color, if possible), dress shirt, tie, dress, dress shoes

DO NOT JEOPARDIZE YOUR PARTICIPATION IN THE GRADUATION CEREMONY BY FAILING TO FOLLOW THE DRESS CODE – NO JEANS OR TENNIS SHOES!

The administration reserves the right to determine appropriate attire.

Behavioral Code:
Graduation at Sherando High School is a FORMAL ceremony. Graduates do not just represent themselves. They represent their families, their community, and their school. In attendance will be family, friends, faculty, staff, media representatives, and invited special guests. For these reasons, exemplary behavior is expected.

A special graduation video will be produced, provided all student conduct is acceptable. An order form for the graduation video will be mailed with parent information.

During the ceremony, Mr. Nelson will make a special effort to recognize as many graduates as possible for outstanding achievement in academics and student activities. These graduates will be asked to stand.

When officially announced, students will walk across the stage, shake hands with Mr. Nelson, receive their diploma covers, and have their pictures taken. After the ceremony, students will receive their diplomas when they turn in their rental gowns.

Any misconduct by graduates during the ceremony, in addition to embarrassing families and classmates, will result in disciplinary action. Individual diplomas will be withheld until an appropriate amount of school service has been performed over the summer.

Last year's senior class continued our tradition of having an exceptional graduation ceremony. By working together, we can continue to build upon this tradition.
